I always find taking photos in a tangible way is so satisfying. For this Iron Man shot, I wanted to make it look like he was flying through the sky, and do it in a way where nothing needed to be edited out.
I went with the glass technique for this shot. I have a sheet of glass that was held up by four glasses, and then I just placed Iron Man on top of the glass. The glass technique is great, because it helps you simulate things flying or floating without having to use a stand. It can be tricky trying to work with the glare and shadows of the glass on the backdrop, but through adjustments you can get it to work.
I was also very happy with the illumination on Iron Man's arc reactor. I was using a LumeCube below the glass to add some lights from below, and I noticed it was causing a hot spot on his armor. That gave me the idea to just move the LumeCube so that it was shining directly at the pearl white arc reactor on his chest, and it instantly gave it a glowing effect.
Finally, I found the quote that I used for this shot from doing a Google search of Iron Man quotes, and I thought it was very fitting due to the fact that the world is crazy right now because of the global pandemic. I feel like it would be something Tony Stark would say if he were here in our world right now.
